Participating in the service-learning partnership helped me in alot of ways. It helped me realize how much I love helping people. I love children and I got to work with a bunch of kids that were emotionally or phsically abused. My childhood was pretty good, I never had to deal with anything like this. Going into the Children's Center, I was a little afraid that the children would not like me. It was like my first day of school all over again, and I did'nt know what to except. As I got to know them, I found out that they are all incredible little kids. The things that they had gone through didn't stop them doing anything. You would never of been able to tell that they had a rough childhood so far. They had such great help from their counselors and teachers that they were just as happy as anyone else.
Seeing how these little kids just carried on with their lives taught me that anything is possible. No matter where you come from, you can still accomplish great things. It also taught me that everyone has struggles, but its the people that struggle and are still happy with their lives. Everything i have learned i apply to my life. I want to help those who have helped me see what really matters in life. I believe that as long as you are happy with yourself, then anything and everything you want will be yours.
This course connects with what I have leanred in my other courses by helping me better understand the people I am around. It has showed me that people have differences and that is okay. Noone is perfect, and we should learn from everyone around us.
